Chap 1: Why not just buy an anatomy book?
-Why not just buy an anatomy book? The short answer is: you really don’t need to know everything in it. And, most (all) medical info is written from the perspective of healing/health. When a medical book says don’t press here and here at the same time or the heart can slow to the point of stopping – a martial artist has to translate that into “I need to write that down!!!” Advanced anatomical understanding can be useful if you plan to go into some type of medical field – but to protect your life or to train people to defend them selves – it is superfluous.

Generally… Because medical, anatomy, massage, acupuncture and similar books and schools are from the perspective of “healer.” Though I propose that, whether you intend it or not, even studying the human body for the goal of self defense will reveal a great understanding of self and neighbor. You will begin to see weaknesses in a persons gait, posture and

– Reading the Body- Wataru Ohashi
– almost any “Accupressure/Shiatsu” book – just get one with lots of pictures and less anatomical jargon.
– The Book author??______ video for anatomy taught w humor
– For you OCD people – Erle Montigue’s Encyclopedia is extremely detailed. Some people don’t like his stuff, but I promise, you will be way confused with details before you learn something someone disagrees with.
